Defence Secretary Grant Shapps has said that 20,000 soldiers will be stationed across Europe as part of a NATO exercise known as Steadfast Defender 24.
Mr Shapps has outlined a plan for the UK’s loss of the “peace dividend” that the West has enjoyed since the end of the Cold War.
After the UK government has pledged another 2.5 billion to Ukraine, on top of the nearly 7 billion they’ve already thrown at that conflict and with our country joining the United States in air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemen, it should come as no surprise that we are readying the armed forces for war, even if it is being dressed up as an exercise.
Across Europe, why do we suspect that doesn’t mean Spain or the Paris suburbs? No, it will be Eastern Europe. No doubt, it will mean Ukraine or even in or around Turkey, which conveniently borders Iran!
So again, we have another senior cabinet member cocking the hammer and waiting to plunge us into the next war. Yes, they may dress it up and tell us it to “defend our nation” or use politicians’ phrases like “averting a humanitarian crisis” or calling the next Middle Eastern group a “threat to our democracy.”
We bomb people now for threatening container ships.
Ask yourselves, where are the countries that send the container ships full of goods? Why aren’t they defending these containers? If you buy something from Amazon and it gets nicked, you don’t go out looking for the thief; you get hold of Amazon and ask for another item or a refund.
You could argue that it affects our economy, so we should defend these ships, but they aren’t all coming to us; why is it only the USA with us as their attack dog who do most of the heavy lifting?
The EU and nations around the Near East, like Turkey and Israel, will also benefit from us defending our country. How about this? How about we deploy these troops, but instead of deploying them in Eastern Europe or the Middle East, we deploy them across OUR border; we could even call it Operation Defend Nation or Operation Threat to our democracy if it makes Shapps and his ilk happy.
