We have noted the weak and feeble statement issued by so-called “independent” Cllr Ashley Baxter yesterday. It appears to be little more than a knee-jerk reaction to avowed communists ringing him up to stir trouble. His response displays a lack of discretion, tact, independent thought, political knowledge, or even a willingness to learn the basic facts. His use of the term “far-right” is most tiresome, as it is merely a catch-all term for what the establishment does not like.
If Cllr Baxter had genuinely thought there was a problem, he could have shown leadership by coming down to the Bourne Corn Exchange to see what was happening, or simply contacting Town Cllr Andrew Piper, who was present. Instead, he chose to rush to judgment and publicly disgrace himself.
For the record, our event was properly and openly booked in the name of the Homeland Party, just as any other political party or organisation would book a public facility. To suggest this was somehow improper, that a lawful political party with sitting councillors and candidates in the area should not be allowed to use a public venue at all, simply because the Leader of the Council personally dislikes our politics, is anti-democratic in the extreme.
It is Cllr Baxter, not the council staff, who is in the wrong here. His biased comments and his attempts to intimidate council staff with threats of “investigations” are disgraceful. We assert our right, under the same public access rules as any other group, to use public facilities without discrimination or political interference.
Cllr Baxter’s comments about “political sensitivity” and calling in the police display a worrying misunderstanding of his own duties. As part of Operation Ford, police forces across the country are providing heightened protection to parties and candidates during the election period. This is done to uphold democracy, not stifle it. Public venues should remain available to all parties equally, without political bias from councils or the police. That was the case here. There is no law against holding a conference, and we thank council staff and the police for their professionalism.
We must also ask, if Cllr Baxter claims to champion democracy and fairness, why would he or anyone else even contemplate “cancelling the booking” or “preventing delegates from entering the building”? Such language reveals an authoritarian mindset entirely at odds with British democratic traditions.
Cllr Baxter’s reference to the government’s PREVENT strategy is ignorant at best and misleading at worst. PREVENT is not aimed at legitimate political parties. The Homeland Party is a registered political party with a track record of leading young people away from anything that could be regarded as extremist. Furthermore, PREVENT has been widely discredited by the Shawcross Review, former Home Secretaries, and numerous media investigations.
Despite the trouble Cllr Baxter is attempting to stir, The Big Remigration Conference was a resounding success and went without a hitch. Speakers travelled from as far as Germany, including Mrs Lena Kotré of the AfD and Member of Parliament for Brandenburg State. This underlines the democratic nature of the event.
Interactions with locals outside the venue and at the local Wetherspoons afterwards were 100% positive. The vast majority of the British people do not like mass immigration, recognise it as a grave wrong imposed upon them, and showed a “good for you” attitude towards those opposing it and offering real solutions. Many locals were particularly impressed by the smart, approachable young people representing the Homeland Party.
Finally, we commend the staff of South Kesteven District Council, who have always treated us with politeness, professionalism, and respect. It is a crying shame their own Leader could not show the same decency. We urge them to remain resolute in the face of politically motivated bullying from their own leadership. As for Cllr Baxter’s claim to be “embarrassed”, frankly, he should be.
The Homeland Party will continue to stand up for the rights and freedoms of the our people, against political censorship and intimidation from all quarters.
