Six people have been confirmed dead, and over 50 have been rescued after a migrant boat capsized in the Channel this morning.
The small boat is believed to have had difficulty at around 5 am on Saturday due to severe adverse weather conditions before being rescued around 5 miles from Calais.
Five French ships, two British ships and a helicopter are currently engaged in a search and rescue operation following the incident, which has seen five people taken to hospital in Calais whilst others were transported to Western Jet foil Quay where there is a border force centre.
The Home Secretary said: “My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the tragic loss of life in the Channel today.
“This morning, I spoke with our Border Force teams supporting the French authorities in response to this incident.”
A major milestone has been reached in the small boat crisis, as 100,000 migrants have crossed the Channel since the crisis began in 2018.
The landmark figure was reached on Thursday when further 550 people crossed in 11 small boats.
This loss of life was always going to happen; this was a tragic inevitability of the Home Office allowing these dangerous journeys.
We have seen one home secretary after the other talk about getting tough on small boat crossings for five years, yet nothing.
We can go on about government incompetence or even shout what we all know, that being the powers that be have no intention of stopping them, so here’s a suggestion from the Homeland Party to the British government.
Get tough on the French; sure as hell, if it were the other way around, the roads in and out of the ports would be blocked by burning tyres, trailers and every tractor from Rennes to Le Mans.
Demand that whoever is dealing in large boats be shut down, as it should be easy to spot over four dozen men and a boat heading to the beach.
The Homeland Party sends its condolences to the bereaved and a message to the government, opposition, the likes of stand up to racism and all the people who encourage these people to make these dangerous trips.
Their blood is on your hands.
