This Sunday, our North-East Scotland branch returned to the frontlines of conservation. On the agenda: tackling the invasive Himalayan Balsam threatening our native ecosystem. This time, the team focused on a patch of new growth where the aggressive balsam was choking out the native plants. This task demanded extra precision, navigating thick brambles, nettles, and native flora needing protection. Huge sections of Balsam, some towering over six feet tall, were cleared. The result? Sunlight once again reaching the ground, nutrients freed up in the soil, and native plants reclaiming space to breathe and thrive. A decisive win for Scotland’s natural heritage!
