Balsam Bash in Forfar

The North East Scotland branch has had a busy few weeks. Members have been out tackling the Himalayan balsam problem in Forfar again. The weed is an invasive, non-native plant also known by the common names of ‘policeman’s helmet’ and ‘touch-me-not’. Himalayan balsam has been listed as a Species of Special Concern since 2017 and is listed on Schedule 9 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. It is so problematic to our native flora and fauna it is agaisnt the law to cause it to spread.

Our team got stuck in volunteering their time and effort to help clear another patch of this troublesome weed, giving native species a chance to recover. A well-earned pub lunch was in order afterwards.
