This sickening story may sound like it came straight from a horror film, but in this case, truth is stranger (and more disgusting) than fiction. Last month, a distressing photo was shared with Traditional Britain’s Twitter page, whereby a local walker encountered a group of Asian men at the Derwent Reservoir. Beside them was what appeared to be a slaughtered lamb hanging from a nearby tree, with the knife still protruding from its carcass.
The walker posted: “While on a lovely walk up the Derwent Reservoir I came across a group of Asian males in the picnic area, music playing and enjoying the fresh air… what I didn’t expect to see was a skinned & gutted lamb hanging in the tree with a large knife sticking out of it beside them.”
According to the same Twitter feed, this isn’t an isolated case. Another photo was shared which reportedly caught two Asian men in the act of stealing a lamb in the Snake Pass region of the Peak District. The BBC also reported in April that a dozen prize Ryeland show sheep had been stolen in a suspected meat heist, with one found bound and tied, which fortunately survived.
These disappearances, or should we say thefts, occurred in the month of April, which just so happens to be the month of Ramadan. During Ramadan, lamb is a popular ingredient in iftar cooking, the meal in which Muslims break their fast upon the sun setting. To top all of this off, it has been widely reported (perhaps even celebrated) by local and national media that the number of Asian visitors to popular Derbyshire hiking routes is on the rise.
So, it seems we may have all the pieces to the puzzle and it’s difficult to know where to start when discussing this turn of events. Should we start with the fact that crimes are being committed in broad daylight with farmers’ livestock being stolen? What of the inhumane treatment of said animals? Or maybe the sight of a mutilated animal on full display in a family picnic area?
It’s stories like this that really hammer home the glaring disconnect between two very different cultures. We are a nation of animal lovers who, despite generally being meat eaters, believe in the humane treatment and butchering of animals. That being the case, why is there always a deafening silence from the so called “progressives”, many of whom advocate for animal rights and vegetarianism, when a light is shone on the cruel treatment of animals from cultures we welcome into our country? We are also a nation of people that respects the law and private property, but as one Twitter user aptly puts it: “The sad thing is the police will do nothing in case they offend.”
Homeland believes that the theft of any property should be taken seriously, and the punishment should fit the crime, regardless of who might get offended. We also believe in the humane treatment of animals and ensuring our beautiful countryside is kept that way for future generations to enjoy.
