Wandering hands in Westminster

Caroline Nokes, chairwoman of the Woman and Equalities Committee

Caroline Nokes, who chairs the Woman and Equalities Committee, has stated that she has experienced inappropriate behaviour about 50 times in her 13-year career.

The Tory MP went on to say that what some women go through in and around the halls of Westminster is horrific and has urged party whips to draw up tougher code of conduct rules.

The Romsey and Southampton North MP went on to say that conditions had improved since she first entered parliament in 2010 and that people who work there can speak out more freely.

Ms Nokes went on to sight various instances, including a member of the House of Lords stroking her arm, a Labour Party MP patting her on the backside and multiple instances of colleagues putting their hand on her leg. Things were that bad there were people she wouldn’t get in a lift with, whilst other female MPs shared information to each other about who amongst the men was a creep!

Well, guess who isn’t surprised by these revelations, what with Mhairi Black, the outgoing Paisley MP, calling Westminster “outdated, toxic and sexist,” five former staff members saying older MPs were predatory and the case of Chris (bottom) Pincher, with his wandering hands, all just added to the list of indiscretions perpetrated by our ruling class. Not surprised in the slightest.

Evidently, Ms Nokes is correct; the Code of Conduct of the mainstream parties obviously does need to change. The Homeland Party has a code of conduct which is quite simple and straight forward to follow. Good honest people like our Homeland members and activists don’t need to be told not to touch other people inappropriately; normal folk don’t need it spelt out to them.
