Several Dorset party members met up at the Black Dog, the oldest pub in Weymouth. The place was once a smuggler’s haunt and the scene of a a murder in 1758. This public house dates to the 12th century and led to the development of Georgian architecture. In the Crabchurch Conspiracy, Royalists were let in and 250 residents were killed before it went back to Parliamentarian control.
Our public houses are an important, tangible link to our history, shared identity and culture. It is important we support them to ensure they remain long into the future.
