It has been rumoured that former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn is mulling over a move to start a new political party in the next few weeks.
The 74-year-old, if he did start a new party, could poach voters who are dissatisfied with the current direction of the Labour Party.
There would certainly be space for an anti-war party which would appeal to many who are calling for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, with a sizeable chunk of Labours Muslim vote heading Corbyn’s way.
Corbyn may also find himself with a green following after Sir Keir Starmer, now that getting into power looks certain, has started to backtrack on his pledge to spend 28 billion a year on green policies.
Corbyn is currently tipped to run as an independent at the impending election after being banned from standing as the Labour candidate for a row over anti-Semitism whilst he was leader.
What a tangled web politics weaves.
Just as we all thought Labour would run away with the next election, what could be, COULD be, a serious left-wing faction may shortly surface. Though we would put Corbyn in the Boomer who won’t retire category, and he is vilified and ridiculed by many, it is safe to say he does have a dedicated following.
So, the opinion polls suggest Reform will cut into the Tory vote. Now, perhaps another left-wing party to eat away at Labour, the SNP and Plaid Cymru banging the internationalist drum for Scotland and Wales, we think it is safe to say that now would be an ideal time to do away with first past the post voting and bring in proportional representation.
I’m sure Corbyn and his pink-haired followers would agree that would be the most inclusive option.
