Cost of housing migrants could top £30m a day by 2026

Housing migrants and asylum seekers in temporary accommodation like hotels could cost up to £11billion a year if the new proposed Mall Boats Bill fails, according to the Government.

Home Secretary Suella Braverman is set to point to the figures as evidence that her new Illegal Migration Bill would save British taxpayers money. Braverman’s Illegal Migration Bill suggests that the cost of accommodating migrants could hit more than £30 million a day – an increase from the current cost of £6m per day. She also looks set to use the figures as evidence that the legislation would save taxpayers money ahead of a showdown to push the bill through Parliament.

The new law would give ministers powers to detain almost every migrant who arrives in the UK illegally and deport them to their home nation or a safe third-party country. But the Government’s plans to do so in Rwanda could yet be thwarted as ministers await a judgement on the scheme from the Court of Appeal.

We believe that there is little to no will from the government to remove illegal immigrants and would point to the sheer volume of immigration into the UK as evidence. The Home Secretary, like many in positions of public office are happy to hide behind the mechanism and bureaucracy to hide their lack of will to take action, and actions speak louder than words, Suella.

The Homeland Party wait with bated breath to see how far Braverman’s plan goes; meanwhile we all keep paying.
