Almost 1,000 cannabis plants have been found growing in a former shop unit following a raid by Derbyshire police. Officers found the large-scale cannabis operation in what used to be the Marks & Spencer building in Spring Gardens, Buxton, following a tip-off from the public.
A 34-year-old man, “believed” to be an Albanian national, has been arrested in connection with the operation but also on the grounds of his immigration status. Officers said the matter had been referred to the Home Office, which will investigate if he was a modern-day slavery victim.
At the time of writing, the man has yet to be charged, and, as always when it comes to migrants, the police appear somewhat cagey. We can indulge in conjecture.
It’s fair to assume that this Albanian national knows that passing himself off as a victim of slavery will help him evade the severe criminal penalties of drug cultivation. In other words, of course, he would say that! British criminals must surely be envious of these literal get-out-of-jail-free cards.
On a more serious note, this is just one of countless examples of why our immigration policies are failing so miserably, and it should come as no surprise that the uncontrolled influx of undocumented immigrants would start to harbour such criminal activity.
Coincidentally, Buxton is already bracing itself for the wonders of cultural enrichment as the University of Derby ploughs ahead in its plans to turn its residence halls into a migrant hotel.
Some Homeland Party members recently conducted surveys in the town centre and discovered, to the surprise of no one, that the locals were not happy with the plans. 76% said they were against them, and 79% said they wanted less immigration overall.
We hope this cannabis scandal will persuade the minority to see sense. In the Homeland Party’s vision for the future, immigration would end, and foreign criminals would be deported.
