Nicola Sturgeon arrested

Former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the SNP.

Police confirmed a 52-year-old woman was taken into custody as a suspect and is being questioned by detectives. It follows the arrest and subsequent release of her husband, ex-SNP chief executive Peter Murrell, in April.

A spokeswoman for Ms Sturgeon confirmed she had attended a police interview by arrangement on Sunday.

The former first minister, who stepped down in March, was arrested and questioned by officers who have for the last two years, been investigating the whereabouts of nearly £700,000 in donations to the independence campaign.

“Nicola has consistently said she would cooperate with the investigation if asked and continues to do so”, a spokesperson for Sturgeon said.

The same investigation has also seen former SNP treasurer Colin Beattie arrested, and a motorhome worth over 100k was seized from outside the home of Sturgeon’s mother-in-law.

Ms Sturgeon, Mr Murrell and Mr Beattie were the three signatories on the SNP’s accounts.

We at the Homeland Party are not surprised at the absolute state of Scottish politics. Like the Conservatives in Westminster, they have had the keys to the bus for well over a decade, and it has become apparent that whoever is driving doesn’t have a license.

We must also state that Mr Beattie was released without charge and that people are presumed innocent. However, this is not a good look, especially with Scottish Labour ahead in opinion polls.

Nearly 15 years on from the expenses scandal, it is clear that mainstream politicians have learned nothing. The Homeland Party would offer an alternative to the same old game we see in politics today.
